DEFINITION
News Item is a text that provides information about events/occurrences of the day.
PURPOSE
The purpose of news item is to inform the readers, viewers or listeners about interesting and decent events of being news in a way which attracts public attention.
CHARACTERISTICS
- Focus on an event
- There are headlines that contain brief information
- Using several verbs that are useful to inform something, such as (happened, told, said, informed, quoted, reported, etc.)
- There are indirect sentences and direct sentences that use quotation marks ("....")
- This text contains information about the place, time and details of the event that occurred.
- One text that can use the Simple Present Tense to explain facts and also the Simple Past Tense to explain past events
Types of Example Sentences in News Items
